In Lagos where I live, we face the menace of water hyacinths, an invasive seaweed that disrupts economic activities on the water ways threatens our biodiversity, and blocks hydroelectricity power channels. In 2019, I discovered the many benefits in upcycling these hazardous materials, as well as other ecofriendly materials, for fashion production. We at red-button has since, worked in collaboration with other relevant players, and with over 300 women in these coastal communities to process these waste materials thereby creating a whole new economy out of an environmental hazard.

The challenge of maintaining and fixing smart phones was common among over 15003 smart phone users in my community (Umuebulu II, Etche). One has to travel to big city (about 19km to 21km away) or other distant community to buy get other smart phone services. Often, we ended up buying imitation accessories and overrated price. The market was saturated with products from unsanctioned manufacturers, those smuggled into the country for cheap price at the expense of durability.

Red-button is a sustainability minded fashion company creating a proactive and sustainable fashion – apparel, headwear and accessories for working women in Africa. Our unique value is in fusing African aesthetics, eco-friendly and upcycled materials like coconut shells, water hyacinths, textile waste etc., increasing our impact in Africa by empowering more local artesian.


RIL's SOLUTION

RIL Technology and Accessories is a smart phone tech and accessories problem solving enterprise dedicated to providing products that are sanction by the Standard Organization of Nigeria, selling at an economical price by buying directly from sanctioned dealers at 15% discount and spreading our shops at strategic points within the community. Our offerings to target customers are Affordable, Durable and Accessible which is our unique selling point.

 

 TRACTION

Our collections have been featured on major fashion platforms around the world including vogue, united nations alliance for sustainable fashion and the Mercedes Benz fashion week. With thousands of customers world wide we are ready to scale with our new ready-to-wear model and retail strategy.

RIL's TRACTION

In 2 years, our services have gained the loyalty of 532 customers (89 wholesale & 443 Retail customers) –– out of which 13% wholesale customers are 3 - 5 months old startups accessories retail within the community. Partnering with FIL agents for sanctioned accessories supply, we are ready to scale.


ASK

We are pitching for $5,000 in grant funding to invest in production cost including manpower and raw materials, to actualize our growth plans. With this, we would increase our impact by 30%, increase our retail units and engage 4 more talents by the end of 2023

We are pitching for $5,000 in grant funding to invest in purchasing cost from sanctioned accessories dealer, expanding to underserved community, acquisition of specialized equipment to service all 15003+ target customers. With this we would grow our community impact from 13-34% and increase self-employment by end the of 2024
